The 2020 World Air Quality Report is based on PM2.5 data from 106 countries. 84 percent of all monitored countries observed air quality improvements, largely due to measures like lockdown to arrest the spread of Covid-19.
Though there was a distinct improvement in pollution levels across India, Delhi continues to feature in the list of the world s 10 most polluted cities.
2020 is tied with 2016 as the hottest year on record. Wildfires and sandstorms fuelled by the warming climate led to extremely high pollution levels in California, South America, Siberia and Australia. ....

Just 24 countries out of 106 monitored countries met World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines for fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in 2020.
That is one of the findings from the IQAir quality report, which shows air pollution was still at very high levels despite some air quality improvements driven mostly by the lockdown restrictions imposed by governments.
According to the study, almost half of all European cities surpassed the WHO’s target for annual PM2.5 pollution. ....

World Air Quality Report 2020: Bangladesh most polluted

Air quality of Bangladesh was the worst in the world, while its capital Dhaka was the second most air polluted city in 2020, said a global report.
South Asia remained the most polluted region of the world with Bangladesh, India and Pakistan sharing 42 of the 50 most polluted cities worldwide, shows new data from IQAir s global air quality data platform in its World Air Quality Report 2020.
The report published yesterday said the average annual PM 2.5 concentrations in Bangladesh was 77.1 microgrammes per cubic metre (mcg/m3) of air, which is seven times above WHO exposure recommendation.
Researchers from IQAir a global air quality information and Swiss-based tech company analysed pollution data from 106 countries, specifically measuring PM 2.5, a microscopic pollutant that can cause serious health risks. ....
