OXFORD â Granville County Public Schools officials have downsized their central office staff to save money. A special school board meeting on Tuesday saw members approve the elimination of an assistant superintendent position, the reduction from 16 to 12 of the number of director-level salaried positions in the central office, a restructuring of the entire Curriculum & Instruction and Student Services Department and a shift of several district-based positions to school-based positions The board also agreed to the use of grant funding to pay for school-based positions. âJust as our board is taking on the difficult task of school reorganization, so too must we streamline staffing in our central services,â Superintendent Alisa McLean said, alluding to the ongoing discussion of another round of school consolidation. âThese changes will also eliminate our reliance on state and local dollars. We must capture efficiencies and reduce staffing while maintain ....
The changes take effect July 1, and officials hope they streamline the way they support their schools. âI believe that the reassignments are going to [position] us now that weâre going to be back [teaching] face-to-face,â said board Chairman David Richardson. âAs we embark on our mantra of a new day, [that] new leadership and those reassignments are just kind of making sure everyoneâs on the right seat on the bus. First, the board named Stan Winborne, now the assistant superintendent for operations and human resources, to the position of associate superintendent of curriculum, instruction and student services. Winborne has served nearly 25 years with the district, and as head of curriculum and instruction will replace Michael Myrick, whoâs leaving to become superintendent of the Weldon City Schools. ....

HENDERSON â Vance County Schools officials have taken the âinterimâ qualifier off Jessica Perryâs appointment as principal of the Vance Virtual Village Academy, giving her the job on a permanent basis going forward. They announced the decision Thursday, at the same time they announced that theyâve hired Natashalyn Snipes to serve as the districtâs director of exceptional children.
