Deputies responded to the call for a suspected drunk driver at about 10 p.m. Wednesday at Second Street and Welch Avenue in Berthoud. According to the 8th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team, within approximately 10 minutes, both the suspect, later identified as Erik Daniel Locker, 52, and the deputies fired guns at each other. Locker was taken to Medical Center of the Rockies where he was treated for injuries not considered to be life-threatening. No deputies were injured. ....

Ames Tribune Through rainy weather, the City of Ames celebrated the completion of the Welch Avenue construction that replaced more than a century-old infrastructure below and redesigned the streetscape above. City staff and Ames residents congregated at Ames Fire Station No. 2 at 11 a.m. Thursday for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Mayor John Haila thanked business owners for their patience during the construction that caused a complete closure of Welch Avenue for part of the process. Businesses in the area will be seeing more normalcy outside of road access as the project s completion coincides with continued vaccination distribution and mask mandates being lifted. ....
