Bois, who joked that he was the world’s oldest rookie patrolman at age 33, served two stints in Kirby, first as a patrolman from 1995-2003 and then as interim-then-eventual chief starting in 2009 until his final day on the job last month. “Last April, I sat down with (city manager) Monique (Vernon) and said ‘Look, we’re thinking about retiring,” Bois said on Feb. 23, the eve of his Feb. 24 retirement. “I’ve been in service to the public in one form or another for nearly 40 years now. It has nothing to do with politics or ongoing discussion in Kirby … it’s just time.” ....

Kids at a Central New York elementary school recently got to celebrate some of their favorite books for National Read Across America Day, and even got a special virtual visit from a local officer. Officer Morgan from the Oneida County Sheriff s Office Community Affairs Unit virtually visited Mrs. Sniezek s kindergarten class at W.A. Wettel Elementary School in Vernon on Tuesday. He took some time to talk with the kids and read a few books, including Green Eggs and Ham, for the special day. ....

Vernon man faces multiple charges for home invasion in Alton in separate locations on two dates last year, according to charges that were unsealed Monday. Ronnie D. Jackson, 25, of Mt. Vernon, was charged Jan. 27 with three counts of home invasion, all Class X felonies. The case was presented by the Alton Police Department. According to court documents, on Oct. 1 Jackson entered a home in the 2700 block of Powhatton Street and struck a woman in the head with a firearm. On Nov. 3, court documents show Jackson entered a home in the 3200 block of Oakwood and threatened two residents with a firearm. He allegedly also entered a home in the 900 block of Tremont Street and struck a resident in the head with a firearm. ....
