The work could take place sooner if the funding becomes available.

Judge won't place sexually violent predator at home near Mount Helix; says site inappropriate

SAN DIEGO
A San Diego judge on Monday rejected a request by state hospital officials to place a sexually violent predator in a Mount Helix-area home, saying the site was not appropriate given the area’s density and the home’s proximity to children.
“There is not a basis in my view for approving this property,” Judge Albert Harutunian said. “It is a nonstarter.”
“It is not an appropriate placement, in my view, the judge continued. “It is not something that is a safe placement for the community.”
Harutunian made his decision to reject the placement of Merle Wade Wakefield before hearing from the public on the proposal that Wakefield live at 10957 Horizon Hills Drive. ....

Newport Beach City Manager Week in Review for May 1

Newport Beach News
By Grace Leung, Newport Beach City Manager
Orange County’s COVID-19 numbers mostly held steady this week, continuing the trend we’ve seen over the past several weeks. In Orange County, the seven-day average daily case number decreased slightly, from 2.8 to 2.6, while the test positivity rate (the percentage of positive tests among those tested) stayed at 1.4 percent. The health equity metric increased slightly, from 1.7 percent to 1.9 percent.
This means Orange County will remain in the Orange Tier for a bit longer. By June 15, though, the state will resume full business operations if hospitalizations stay low and vaccine supply remains constant. ....
