Managing editor WEIRTON A series of improvements are in the works for an athletic field used by two area high schools and various other organizations. Weirton parks officials recently announced the receipt of a $122,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant to assist with planned upgrades to the Edwin J. Bowman Field, located in Municipal Plaza. The project was discussed in more detail during Thursday’s meeting of the Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation. According to Parks Executive Director Coty Shingle, plans include the installation of an irrigation system and warning track, replacement of the infield and three pitching mounds, as well as the installation of a new canopy over the bleachers. ....

She was born June 18, 1940, in Guthrie, Kentucky. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie L. and Jessica Lamastus Markham, her first husband, Orval Renner, brothers GW, Elmer, Jimmy Ray Markham, sister Audrey Apostle, and grandmother Sara Ann Lamastus. Sarah was a member of the Weir High graduating class of 1958 and a faithful member of the Impact Church in Weirton. Sarah was a special occasion event planner and owner of Special Touches by Sarah., proudly displaying her brand on all her work that she designed. She also enjoyed shopping; so much that whatever she purchased was destined to be given away. Her greatest enjoyment in life was her family, and she was always concerned that they were adequately looked after, especially her grandk ....

[email protected] WELLSBURG The Brooke County Commission, Tuesday, was updated on efforts to provide COVID-19 vaccine to the county’s oldest residents and encouraged residents to report littering. Mike Bolen, administrator of the county’s health department, said with the cooperation of the Hancock County Health Department and C.H.A.N.G.E. Inc., another vaccination clinic was planned for later this week at Weir High School. Bolen said the site was chosen because state officials require the vaccinations be held in a central location,and it is between the two counties. Since he made the announcement, officials reported all slots for the clinic have been filled. ....
