May 12, 2021 It’s been more than two years since area high school athletes and the fans who follow them have experienced such a hectic couple of weeks. The Ohio Valley Athletic Conference has just crowned its final champion of the 2020-21 school year. Boys and girls basketball teams and wrestlers in West Virginia have just completed their state tournaments. Baseball and softball teams and track athletes in Ohio are beginning tournament play, with the goal being to win a state championship. And, spring sports athletes in West Virginia are continuing regular-regular season play in preparation for post-season action in June. ....

May 10, 2021 Audrey Jean Jeter, 69, of Weirton, WV, departed this life on May 6, 2021 at Weirton Medical Center. She was born June 18, 1951 in Steubenville, OH, a daughter of the late Arthur and Edna Williams Jeter. She was a graduate of Weir High School. Audrey possessed a gift for men’s and women’s fashion and interior home design. She was a skillful and masterful clothing stylist and interior decorator who mesmerized friends, family, work colleagues, and visitors with her singularly original creativity and unparalleled style and flavor. She shared credit for her fashion genius with her former husband and lifelong friend, Gary Gillison, whom preceded her in death. Audrey worked all of her adult life in industries such as banking, retail, and manufacturing. She was the Office Manager at Levolor, Inc. in Weirton, WV, and she retired from Weirton Steel Corporation in 2000 after she survived a tragic car accident that left her with neurological injuries, ....

Staff writer NEW CUMBERLAND The Hancock County Board of Education gave its final approval on the 2021-22 school year calendar, announced a proposed property transaction would not be moving forward and addressed several personnel issues. Following two public hearings and a survey, the board Monday approved the school calendar proposed by Superintendent Dawn Petrovich. During a series of meetings held last week, Petrovich explained she used responses from the survey to craft the calendar, which must still be approved by the state Board of Education. Board President Danny Kaser explained a property issue, which had been listed for discussion and possible approval as part of Monday’s agenda would not be going forward. ....
