India has administered 158 million Covid-19 vaccine doses as of May 4, in a country of 1.4 billion people. With vaccination supplies dwindling, and delivery rates dropping however, the government’s goal to vaccinate 300 million Indians by August 2021 cannot possibly be realized.
Due to poor quality data, it’s difficult to predict when this milestone will be reached. In order to make a guess, a number of assumptions must be made. At the current rate of vaccine delivery, which dropped from 3.5 million a day in March to an average of 1.6 million daily doses this week, and assuming vaccine supplies keep up with that rate, it will take until February 2022 for the country to vaccinate 300 million people. And that’s still only 20% of the population.

At the end of May last year, as protests exploded over police killings of Black Americans, numerous fashion and beauty companies went online to post their messages of support for the Black community and the Black Lives Matter movement, as well as to pledge their own commitments to change.
Instagram was a preferred channel for these declarations. It’s become a vital way for companies to connect directly with audiences, and its photo-based sharing has made it particularly powerful for fashion and beauty brands. Companies published statements expressing solidarity, posted black squares for Blackout Tuesday, and collectively acknowledged a need to do better.

The results are clear. Companies increased the diversity of skin tones in their Instagram posts, following their mid-2020 pledges to support Black Lives Matter and, in particular, commitment to improving representation. However, it is also clear that those increases were often only marginal.
