The Bear Pit Theatre is at the heart of the Stratford arts community and is grateful to have been supported through the Covid crisis

How The Bear Pit Theatre began
David Mears: It was born out of the prospect of the civil hall closing around 2008, and possibly not having a community venue in the town. It had become increasingly difficult for groups to even hirer the civic hall [now the Play House] because the costs were so prohibitive. ....

Compulsory face coverings for Hereford college students from next week

Students across the country return to college on Monday, March 8.
Hereford College of Arts, Herefordshire, Ludlow and North Shropshire College and Hereford Sixth Form College have collaborated to highlight how to stay safe during the pandemic, while putting students’ education first as part of a Play Your Part scheme.
Several measures have been introduced to keep students safe, such as compulsory face coverings, sanitising stations, one-way systems, social distancing and regular Covid-19 testing.
Acting director of Public Health in Herefordshire Dr Rebecca Howell-Jones said: “It’s important to remember the virus is still out there in our communities.
And while the vaccination programme is being rolled out across the country, every social contact is an opportunity for Covid-19 to spread. ....

Children's thanks in pictures to Herefordshire coronavirus key workers

Here’s a video from Herefordshire Council, which showcases the amazing artwork received from primary schools across the county in celebration of their key worker heroes this Valentine’s Day.
During the Coronavirus pandemic, people working in front-line services, such as health care, emergency services, retail and education, have been supporting members of our local community, serving under monumental pressure.
With many of their children still attending school throughout lockdown, they’ve been creating some wonderful pieces of art to share positivity and appreciation for their loved ones.
A selection of this artwork takes pride of place in the centre, pull-out feature of this week’s Hereford Times (25 February 2021) and will soon be on display at Hereford County Hospital, to help lift the spirits of staff and patients.  ....

The Northern Ireland social media stars making most of lockdown

From baking banana bread to painting the house, we all sought ways to keep ourselves busy in lockdown. Catriona Doherty hears from four local people who turned to the internet for entertainment and watched as their pages became overnight success stories.
It was lovely to see them reach the end of their journey with me
Bambi the snake, Peter the rabbit and Radish the crested gecko are but a few of Hannah McSorley s pets. However, it s her passion for tadpoles that leapfrogged the Omagh teenager to social media success during lockdown.
During a walk with her younger brother, Paul (10), last March, Hannah (17) came across a little puddle of frogspawn in a field. She decided to bring the eggs home in a jam jar as she thought it would be lovely for her brother to watch them develop. Little did she know how many others would be interested in following the journey from spawn to tadpole and eventually frog - an incredible 1.6 million people tracked proceedings via Hannah s B ....
