The Greater Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce has named Brad Jesop as the winner of the 2021 Outstanding Community Service Award. He and Zurliene Enterprises, the 2021 Business of the Year, will be honored at the annual Chamber Dinner, which has been set for October 4 th. Executive Director Marti Garner says the location and speakers are still being finalized. Illinois State Police say 21-year-old Richmond, Missouri, resident Rachel G. Paul was hospitalized after a single-car accident on Interstate 64 in Wayne County yesterday afternoon. She reportedly struck a guardrail and came to rest in a wooded area of the median. Her vehicle caught fire, but she was able to escape beforehand with non-life-threatening injuries.

Headlines for Saturday, May 8th

Fairfield Community High School held its annual Awards Day on Friday.  Over $650,000 was awarded to FCHS seniors.    Among the award recipients is  Jacob Britt and Noah McElravey, receiving the Puckett Foundation Scholarship, worth $12,000 each.  Winners of the Fairfield First Step Rotary Scholarships, worth $500 each, are Blake Pruitt, Brenna Freeman, Aaron Perez, Jacob Britt, Claire Kakac and Xavier Tullis.  Winning the Wayne County 4-H Foundation Scholarship, in the amount of $500 was Drew Barbee.  Winner of the Wayne County Farm Bureau Young Leaders Scholarship, worth $1000, was Callie Vaughan, with Casey Opell and Callie Vaughan winners of $750 scholarships each.  Winning the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Scholarship, worth $16,200 was Jaylynn Tucker.  A live stream of the awards event can be viewed on the FCHS Facebook page.

Headlines for Monday, April 19th

FCHS will hold its Senior Prom on May 8 th, with line-up at the school at 4 and Prom itself at the Willow Creek Venue at 6:30. FCHS After Prom has permission to hold After Prom at FCHS, as well, and it is selling luminaires in honor or memory of someone to light the gravel pathway up to Willow Creek as a fundraiser. They can be purchased for $5 at Carnaby Square, Black’s Fashion Flower, and Mama Bear’s Four Seasons Crafts and More. They can also be purchased by Venmo by inserting “Luminaires” on the memo line to the After Prom FCHS account.
