U.S. farmers said they intend to plant a record-high 91 million acres of soybeans this year, according to the recent Prospective Plantings Report issued by USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. The number is up four percent from 2021. Illinois and Missouri had the highest expected increases and intent to plant 400,000 more acres than last year. Corn planting is expected to be down four percent from 2021 at 89.5 million acres. Decreases of at least 200,000 acres are expected in several states, including Illinois and Indiana. The first installment of 2020 payable 2021 Edwards County Real Estate Taxes was due November 30th. The total extension was $6,276,962, and, as of Tuesday, 71 percent of that total had been paid, according to County Treasurer Debbie Smith. The second installment is due by December 30th, and payment may be made in person, by mail, or in the drop box on the northeast side of the courthouse. People can also pay online at govtechtaxpro.com, though a 2.5 percent fee will be added for the credit card company. Certified delinquent letters will be sent out January 5th, and people must pay delinquent taxes by January 13th to avoid publication in the newspaper on the 19th. The tax sale will be on February 9th. Illinois firearm deer hunting totals were down this year, according to the state Department of Natural Resources. Illinois State Police say 21-year-old Richmond, Missouri, resident Rachel G. Paul was hospitalized after a single-car accident on Interstate 64 in Wayne County yesterday afternoon. She reportedly struck a guardrail and came to rest in a wooded area of the median. Her vehicle caught fire, but she was able to escape beforehand with non-life-threatening injuries.
