The searing allegations put forth in the suit released last week by attorney Jerome Dobson are just that allegations and the absence of the defendants response isn t an implied concession. That s why there s a judicial system. But if you know lots of the players and background either personally or through the news it s impossible to pretend to have an unbiased view. What happened to Doyle is more than believable: It s both a confirmation and indictment of systemic racism in the county in general and the police department in particular. ....

Adams was selected as an Influential Appellate Advocate of 2020, along with William Ray Price Jr. of Armstrong Teasdale for their work in Sherrer v. Boston Scientific Corporation. The annual honor is awarded by Missouri Lawyers Media, publisher of Missouri Lawyers Weekly, to the lawyers behind the most significant appellate decisions of the year. In the highly complex medical device case, the Missouri Supreme Court affirmed judgment in favor of Adams’ client Boston Scientific, rejecting each of the plaintiff’s four points on appeal. ....

The St. Louis County Board of Police Commissioners gave Chief Mary Barton a $12,000 raise during its December board meeting, but its chairman hung up on a reporter when asked about it. Judge William Ray Price Jr. is the chairman of the Board of Police Commissioners, which includes five civilian members appointed by County Executive Sam Page. The five members selected Barton to become chief in April 2020 and voted to raise her salary to $163,092.80 from $151,008 during their December meeting. It s an 8% raise. Officers and sergeants got a 3% raise, professional staff got a 2% raise and all commanders with the rank of lieutenant and above got their annual step increases, but no raises. ....
