An addict with a guilty conscience handed himself into police because he feared he would commit another crime to fund his drug habit.
Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald was told that 41-year-old Neil Redmond broke into the cafe at the city’s Botanic Gardens in the Bught Park on November 15 last year.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard on Thursday that drug dealers and users had moved into the Hilton area where Redmond lived and it resulted in him becoming addicted to heroin again. ....

As Sunday’s 40th anniversary of Town’s 1978 FA Cup triumph approaches,
Mel Henderson, the club’s public relations officer at the time, recalls that great day, the run which took the Blues to Wembley and how he came to be among those sitting on the bench during the final.
May 6th, 1978, was undoubtedly the most memorable day in the history of our favourite club.
I’m not forgetting what must have been an unforgettable climax to a fairytale 1961/62 season as Alf Ramsey’s team were crowned Football League champions, or the treasured memories of May 1981 when Town fans turned Amsterdam blue and white in recognition of the club’s outstanding success in capturing the UEFA Cup. ....

THE man shot and injured on Saturday night in north Belfast was prominent loyalist Willie Young.
The 51-year-old was shot in the chest through the door of a property in the loyalist Mount Vernon estate.
Mr Young was taken to hospital but police said his injuries were “not believed to be life-threatening at this time”.
Four other people were in the property at the time but all others escaped unhurt.
Detectives confirmed they are treating the shooting as attempted murder. ....
