February 05, 2021 A YEAR since the African Swine Fever (ASF) hit Davao Region, nearly 42,000 hogs owned by an over 8,000 hog raisers were depopulated as a mitigating measure to curb the spread of the animal virus, the Department of Agriculture-Davao Region (DA-Davao) reported.
DA-Davao ASF focal person Armie Capuyan told SunStar Davao in a phone interview that 41,831 were culled because of the disease from January 2020 to present.
A total of 23,326 pigs were culled in Davao Occidental, 6,431 in Davao del Sur, 4,463 in Davao City, 4,599 in Davao del Norte, 2,330 in Davao de Oro, and 682 in Davao Oriental.
As of now, Capuyan said Davao Occidental has no reported ASF cases, while Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, and Davao de Oro provinces are undergoing disease control activities.
Aaron Rodgers donates half a million to help Butte County small businesses
Green Bay Packers star quarterback and Chico native, Aaron Rodgers, announced Wednesday a $500,000 donation through the NVCF to help locally owned small businesses in Butte County.

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. – Aaron Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers star quarterback and a Chico native, is teaming up again with the North Valley Community Foundation (NVCF), this time to help small, locally owned businesses in Butte County get through the coronavirus pandemic.
Rodgers, announced Wednesday via Instagram Live, that he will donate a half-million dollars to the Aaron Rodgers Small-Business COVID-19 Fund.

+ February 03, 2021 A DAVAO City councilor is pushing for the government to provide temporary subsidies for traders and farmers due to the rising costs of meat, pork products, vegetables and other basic goods.
Councilor Pamela Librado-Morata said in her privilege speech on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, that pork sold in markets over the past few weeks is currently more than P300 per kilo and chicken is almost P200 a kilo, this coupled with increased prices of vegetables and other commodities.
Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Librado-Morata said this new situation has forced several families to budget tighter to put food on the table.
