Between January 1 and April 30, 2021, 337 reports of catalytic converter thefts were reported to the Springfield Police Department. Springfield police have arrested a total of 14 people since January (seven were announced on May 13) for their involvement in the theft of catalytic converters. Those are parts of a vehicle’s exhaust system that reduce harmful emissions, according to Ridwan Sakidja, a professor in the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Materials Science at Missouri State University. Catalytic converters convert toxic gases that come out of your vehicle’s exhaust system into gases that aren’t as impactful to the environment. ....

Temple Police Warn of Thieves Targeting Catalytic Converters The Temple Police Department is warning of thieves who are targeting catalytic converters. Temple PD s Public Relations Specialist Alejandra Arreguin reports that since the start of 2021, the department has investigated 26 cases of catalytic converter theft. The thing is, some of those cases involve multiple vehicles having been targeted at a single locations. The majority of the recent converters stolen are from commercial vehicles or larger pickup trucks, but suspects have targeted passenger vehicles as well, Arreguin said. Most affected locations are businesses along or near Interstate 35 and Loop 363. Apartment complexes have also been targeted. ....
Alleged Catalytic Converter Theft Suspect Arrested After Illegally Parking In Stevenson Ranch A catalytic converter theft suspect was arrested Thursday evening after deputies noticed that he had allegedly parked illegally in Stevenson Ranch. Around 11:15 p.m. Thursday, deputies patrolling the 24800 block of Pico Canyon Road in Stevenson Ranch reportedly observed a vehicle illegally parked, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “Deputies contacted the occupants of the vehicle and learned the male driver was on active probation and had an outstanding warrant to his name,” Arriaga said. Deputies detained the driver and his passenger pending further investigation, according to officials. ....
