Friends of the Solana Beach Library awards scholarships to six local students July 9, 2021 4:11 PM PT Print The Directors of the Friends of the Solana Beach Library recently announced the winners of the 2021 Friends Scholarships for education beyond the high school level. Five of this year’s six winners of the $1,000 scholarships were seniors from Torrey Pines High School (TPHS), and the sixth was homeschooled. All of them were supported by outstanding letters of recommendation from their teachers and others. And all showed determination and resourcefulness in dealing with the challenges of applying during COVID-19 restrictions. Del Sol Lions Club delivers on its Christmas mission Del Sol Lions provided holiday gifts for 13 local families impacted by Covid-19. Dec. 23, 2020 4:49 PM PT Print With the generous help of this community, the Del Sol Lions Club was able to donate $2,200 to the Community Resource Center for the purchase of new blankets for the annual Holiday Baskets Program. In spite of the Covid-19 pandemic and its limiting factors in fundraising, this donation helped CRC to successfully reach its goal of 900 new blankets for those in need. Their Christmas Day will be a more comfortable event for the families affected. The community’s gift was most appreciated by the families involved. ....
Laramie Interfaith, Laramie Connections Center, and the Laramie Soup Kitchen are partnering to ensure that Holiday Meals are available to all in our community who are in need. Laramie Soup Kitchen is prepared to offer 600 microwavable Holiday Meals To-Go, with glazed ham and a variety of fixings prepared by their chef. These meals will be ready to eat and will only need a microwave to be enjoyed. Laramie Interfaith is offering 300 Holiday Baskets with items needed to make a Holiday Dinner at home, including stuffing and mashed potatoes, along with a voucher for a turkey from a local grocery store. For these, having an oven to cook the food is highly recommended. ....
Young Writers Project PCC also provided support to a number of events outside of Vermont, including the Black Arts Matter festival in Madison, Wisconsin. PCC also allows its employees to take time off for community service and encourages them to become active leaders and board members in organizations, some of which include Lyric Theatre, Laboratory B, Kids Safe, and the Vermont Technology Alliance. Davis & Hodgdon $15,300 went to 16 local nonprofit organizations in the form of sponsorships. $10,000 is being donated to a pool of six organizations selected by its clients as part of its 2020 holiday donation initiative. J. Scott Marketing J. Scott Marketing donated $500 to the VT Food Bank and also volunteered woman-hours for Vote Forward, a political non-profit that encourages inactive voters to get to the polls. ....
Print Members of the Del Mar – Solana Beach Rotary Club helped fill 100 boxes at the revised Community Resource Center (CRC) Holiday Baskets event to help needy families in North County. In its 38th year, the basket drive was scaled down this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Boxes were packed at a Whole Foods warehouse instead of the usual operation at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, and volunteers were limited and adhered to strict mask and distancing guidelines. 1,100 participating households received boxes filled with non-perishable food, fresh produce, a blanket and family presents such as games, stuffed animals, and puzzles in a drive by distribution at Mira Costa College on Saturday, Dec. 5. The pandemic caused a much different distribution than normal, but the CRC continues to provide supportive services of healthy food, stable housing, and safe shelter from domestic violence for families in need. ....
