Several community organizations have partnered together to provide a Holiday Food Giveaway while citizens take the opportunity to test for COVID-19.

Cabarrus Blessing Boxes give away more than double Holiday Meal boxes than initially planned

Sheryl Kluge set a goal to give away 70 holiday meals before Christmas right out of the seven Blessing Boxes throughout the County. They were able to give out 140 when all was said and done.
âI am so proud of Cabarrus County,â Kluge said. âThe residents of Cabarrus County, they make me cry. Iâm going to tear up right now again.â
The Cabarrus Blessing Boxes have been active in the county for more than a year now but have really picked up in usage and need since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The unemployment rate in North Carolina remains high with the most recent statistics sitting above 6 percent and residents of Cabarrus County are no exception. ....

Food giveaway helps nearly 400 families

KANKAKEE â Hundreds took part in an annual food giveaway Dec. 12 in downtown Kankakee.
The seventh annual Healthy for the Holidays Food Giveaway was the result of a partnership between local nonprofit Still I Rise and BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois. About 400 cars passed through the event that was held in the parking lot near the Kankakee Farmerâs Market grounds, 250 S. Schuyler Ave.
Items distributed include 200 free turkeys, 250 fresh produce boxes, 200 boxes of Johnsonville sausages and boxes of nonperishable food items including Pepsi products from sponsors to ensure families in need would have a nourishing meal this holiday season. PPE also was distributed. ....
