MONROE, Ga. â A man died by apparent suicide after a police chase ended in a crash Tuesday night. The ensuing investigation closed Gratis Road, and the road is expected to be closed into the overnight hours early Wednesday. Sheriff Joe Chapman said law enforcement were alerted to look for a man whoâd been involved in an argument with his girlfriend in Barrow County. The man wasnât wanted for a crime, Chapman said, but out of concern for his own safety. Chapman said Monroe police found the vehicle in Mathews Park on East Marable Street. The man apparently fled the scene and Monroe officers pursued him, eventually performing a PIT, or pursuit intervention technique, maneuver designed to end the chase. ....

The construction company said it will hire 300 workers, mostly from Georgia, to build the Lumpkin Solar Farm.
