LABOUR S Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols says it is ‘too early’ to draw any major conclusions from the council elections after her party’s Town Hall majority was cut.
The Conservatives made big gains at the ballot box as Labour retained control of the council despite losing seven seats – including a number of high-profile casualties.
Both of the town’s MPs, who won their seats in the 2019 general election, were at the borough council election count on Saturday.
Ms Nichols said: “Disappointingly, we lost the Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft ward. ....

Labour insists it’s ‘proud of country’ following leaked messages
WARRINGTON Labour insists it is ‘proud of our country’ after controversial messages were leaked.
As reported by the Daily Mail, the leaked messages from the Labour WhatsApp group were posted in response to a debate about flying the Union flag.
Former Warrington South MP Faisal Rashid – who is standing as a candidate in the all-out elections in May – started the conversation by posting a screenshot from ITV’s Good Morning Britain, which was asking: “Should Union flags fly every day? Are flags a sign of unity and patriotism or do they divide us?” ....

Council tax hike agreed - but Lib Dems and Tory vote against
A £150 million budget including a ‘tough’ 4.98 per cent council tax increase has been approved.
The Labour-run council’s medium-term financial plan, revenue budget and capital programme was passed by councillors in a vote during the virtual full council meeting today, Monday.
But the Liberal Democrat opposition group voted against it, along with Conservative Cllr Kath Buckley and independent Cllr Geoff Fellows.
The 4.98 per cent rise includes a three per cent adult social care precept.
It will see the average Band D household be charged £1,863.16 for the year. ....
