Why a Barnegat Man Wore Waders to a Township Meeting

April 12, 2021 at 11:40 AM BARNEGAT, NJ – The first time Bruce Johnson showed up for a Barnegat Township Committee meeting this year, he wore a pair of tall waders. It was February. “I live on 38 Woodmansee Boulevard, down by the marinas,” said Johnson, as he addressed the governing body. “We had a little weather situation today and I had to walk through the bay to get here.” Johnson estimated about a foot of water made his street impassable on that particular morning. He said the road constantly floods, and it’s not the first time he’s asked township officials for help.

Barnegat/Waretown: Community Virtual Easter Parade

April 4, 2021 at 1:09 AM BARNEGAT/WARETOWN, NJ Easter Sunday represents a time for those who believe in Jesus Christ to celebrate His resurrection. The occasion also comes with some inexplicable customs. First, the not so unusual generations of children and their parents dressed up for Easter to head to church. Some communities went so far as to host Easter parades. The most popular ones at the Jersey shore were at Asbury Park and Seaside Heights. Girls wore bonnets and their moms donned big hats. Patent leather shoes were the rage for girls and boys alike. Many little lads had sailor suits, while older ones made sure their ties were absolutely perfect. Some gents opted for bow ties and jackets.
