The call came, apparently, against the backdrop of the order given by Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to herdsmen to vacate the state’s forest reserves and ultimatum given the herders by Yoruba ‘’freedom fighter’’, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Igboho, to vacate Ibarapa community in Oyo State. The latest incident resulted in the killing of 21 people in the Shiroro local government area of Niger state on January 2, 2021. About 40 other people were reported abducted. Mr. Samuel Aruwan, the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, made this known in a statement in Kaduna on Tuesday. Aruwan said the military, under the auspices of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) on Monday, reported an attack by armed bandits at Warsa Piti, Mariri District of Lere local government area of the state. “Quoting an eyewitness, the military stated that the attackers numbering about six masked and dressed in black, stormed the community on Monday night and began shooting sporadically. ....

At least two people have been killed by bandits in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State. According to troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), the attack took place at Warsa Piti, in Mariri District of Lere local government area. Confirming the incident, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said the attackers numbering about six, masked and dressed in black attire, invaded the community late on Monday night and began shooting sporadically. He explained that the troops on receiving a distress call mobilised to the location and engaged the assailants who then fled into the forest. ....
