John Bel Edwards extended vaccine eligibility to K-12 school employees at the end of February, teachers expected long wait times. But so far in New Orleans that hasn’t been the case. Vaccination efforts appear to be ahead of schedule, particularly for NOLA Public School teachers. Twice as many teachers were vaccinated during the first week of distribution than originally anticipated, according to the district, which is helping schedule appointments for its employees. The district credits its speedy rollout to the availability of doses and advanced planning surveying teachers to gauge interest and partnering with local hospitals to secure appointments. ....

ATLANTA - The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation has partnered with Icy Hot to help high school athletes and athletic programs burdened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Of the 136 high schools from around the country that applied, 23 are being awarded ‘Get Game Ready’ grants, including six in Georgia. The grants will help cover the costs of personal protective equipment (PPE), essential supplies, equipment, transportation expenses, and more. In the year since 18-year-old Gregory Alexander was shot and killed on a Chalmette street on Christmas Eve 2019, his mother, Lakecha Shedrick, said three of his friends, including a pallbearer at his funeral, have also died in gunfire.
