BATTLE ON THE BORDER
SHREVEPORT, La. - The City of Shreveport will again host some of the top high school football programs in the region during the 2021 Battle on the Border High School Football Showcase. Games will be held on September 10-11 at Shreveportâs Independence Stadium.
Battle on the Border X features local, state and regional powerhouse high school football programs from Louisiana and Mississippi. The Battle on the Border consists of four games over two days, providing a slate of weekend games for area high school football fans.
âArea high school football fans should be excited about the return of the Battle on the Border,â said Joe Mero, Assistant Director of Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation. âThe City of Shreveport is bringing a solid schedule of games with quality teams to Independence Stadium. We look forward to another great weekend of high school football.â
The initiative is the only federal funding source dedicated exclusively to supporting local summer learning (as well as afterschool and before-school programs) for students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools.
Grant Proposals Show Plans To Triple Summer School Enrollment
Dobard said he expects the number of students attending summer school to triple this year, from 4,000 to 12,000, based on the 72 grant proposals his organization reviewed.
Accepted applications had to meet two conditions: Provide students with transportation to and from the school and be able to draw a “throughline” between summer offerings and the skills students need to be successful in the classroom.
