Staff report NEW LONDON Some area residents may be without power for most of the day on March 7. Firelands Electric Cooperative received notice from its transmission provider that the lines delivering electric power to Firelands Electric’s New London substation will be taken out of service for an emergency planned transmission outage that is scheduled to begin around 9 a.m. on March 7, according to a news release from Firelands. The transmission provider will be making critical equipment repairs, and estimates the work will take approximately 8 hours, the release states. NEW LONDON NOTES: Longtime business owner Bob James passes away Ellen Simmons Special to the Ashland Times-Gazettte The downtown snowflakes are gone, and the Christmas displays in the Recreation Park are disappearing as New London begins a new year. Unfortunately, the village unexpectedly lost a longtime business owner, Bob James, Jan. 1. As his obituary in last Tuesday’s T-G indicated, he owned Main Street Computers for many years and also served as the village zoning inspector. He will be missed greatly. In better news, school is in session and the library is open. New shelving and furniture are being installed in the children’s department, so story times have been put on hold temporarily. ....
