Chattanooga State’s Jenkins Selected For Maxine Smith Fellows Program

Quincy Jenkins, inaugural chief diversity officer and executive director of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Chattanooga State Community College, has been selected to participate in the 2021-22 Class of the Maxine Smith Fellows program. Mr. Jenkins is is one of 13 faculty and staff members from the College System of Tennessee among the 21 from colleges and universities statewide. 
The Maxine Smith Fellows program provides professional development, training and advancement opportunities for participants from traditionally underrepresented groups at the College System of Tennessee, governed by the by the Tennessee Board of Regents, and the state’s locally governed public universities. ....

More students were absent from school desks or in front of computer screens thanks to pandemic-related disruptions this school year, a new report finds.
Though many predicted chronic absenteeism would increase with schools opening and closing and students learning remotely, as the school year comes to a close there’s now data that shows this.
In a study across six Tennessee districts serving about 150,000 students, researchers from the Tennessee Education Research Alliance, led by Vanderbilt University s Peabody College, found that 1 in 5 students in these six districts were chronically absent during the fall 2020 semester. ....
