Guys & gals event to honor military

Hideaway Grill (1630 3rd Avenue South in Payette).  This event is for both men and women.  Cost for the meal and program is $12.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the event begins at 6 p.m. Ron Verini, chairman of the Veteran Advocates of Ore-Ida will be sharing about veterans in our area and how people can be involved in this worthwhile endeavor.   Those attending will have the opportunity to honor their loved ones currently serving in the armed forces. A former member of the Army Chorus, Ernie Scott, Payette, will perform some of his favorite music. Scott traveled with the Army Chorus throughout the United States during his time in the service.

Ladies Night Out reconvenes after months-long break

PAYETTE For the first time in several months after having taken a break due to the pandemic, Treasure Valley Connection will be hosting a Ladies Night Out in March. The event will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, in the banquet room at the Hideaway Grill, 1630 First Ave. S.; doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The theme for March is A Song in Your Heart, and will feature special guest Gospel singers Ron and Kathy Green, of McCall. The couple call their musical ministry Reflections of Love, and will be presenting a 40-minute concert before the speaker. The Greens travel professionally and have s number of CDs available for purchase that evening.

Musicians recall Joy McLean s enthusiasm, say it will be missed | Local News Stories

ONTARIO The Western Treasure Valley is mourning the loss of a local woman who was an ardent musician and lover of music, who used to write columns regarding music for years in the Argus Observer. Joyce McLean, who was known by many as “Joy,” died at the age of 85 on Jan. 31, but her imprint on the music scene in the Western Treasure Valley will carry on. McLean arrived in the area from Ohio in 1968 with her husband, Fran, who had moved his family after accepting a job to be publisher of the newspaper — a job he held until health reasons forced him to retire in 1997. During the course of his nearly three-decade career, Joy McLean’s writings began to appear in the Argus. In the 1970s, she was writing a weekly column titled Art & Music, which gave a rundown of all events related to those topics that were happening around the valley. Sometime in the 1980s, that column morphed into “The Hungry Ear,” in which she would talk about upcoming events, as well as
