Parents Demand Rehabilitation of 27 Forestry Students

Parents of the 27 students of Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna, who were freed on Wednesday after 56 days in kidnappers’ den, have called for the rehabilitation of their children to enable them to overcome possible post-traumatic stress disorder.
The parents, in a statement yesterday, also appealed to the federal government to aggressively pursue safe schooling as an agenda so as to give parents the confidence to send their children to school.
The statement, jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Forum of Parents of Afaka Abducted Students, Abdullahi Usman and Catherine Saleh, respectively, urged the Minister of Environment, Dr. Mohammad Mahmood Abubakar, and the management of the school, to ensure that all the students are rehabilitated to live a normal life and continue with their education. ....

Kaduna State Government has said that abducted students of the College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka recently released are currently receiving medical attention following their experience in the past seven weeks.
The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Awuran, told journalists on Thursday that the students were being attended to by medical doctors and experts dealing with different medical complications.
He said the students are undergoing thorough medical checkups in view of the situation they have found themselves within the last 7 weeks. This is the situation at the moment . ....

SLOWLY but steadily, Nigeria is sliding into war. Shortly after bandits slaughtered three of the kidnapped 23 undergraduates of Greenfield University, Kaduna, Wole Soyinka, a Nobel laureate, captured the moment explicitly in a statement entitled, ‘Endless Martyrdom of Youth.’ He said, “This nation is at war, yet we continue to pretend that these are mere birth-pangs of a glorious entity.” Seriously, Nigeria is on the brink of catastrophe because of the bloody violence that has ensnared it on the watch of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
Soyinka’s perspective on the current “cowardly savagery” coincides with other notable voices, all calling on Buhari to seek help, review the impotent security system or return Nigeria to true federalism. But there is a sense of doom with Buhari in charge. The President has not shown the willpower to steer Nigeria out of violence. ....
