It wasnât one thing in particular that drew Muktika Kalagiri into becoming a classical Indian dancer. It was basically everything.
She was a first-grader in her home country of India when she saw a performance for the first time. Thatâs when she knew she wanted to learn the ancient art form.
âIt was the costumes, the jewelry, the make-up, the performance itself,â Kalagiri said. âThe songs and the way they showed expressions. I really enjoyed that. It felt really good to listen to. Ever since Iâve seen that, I was like, âI want to learn Indian classical dance some day.ââ

BELTON â Planning is what City Manager Sam Listi knows best.
His masterâs degree from the University of Minnesotaâs Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs is in the field. Heâs a certified planner. And, prior to jumping the Leon River to come to Belton, he helped set up and run the city of Templeâs Planning Department for 15 years.
This month marks Listiâs 20th anniversary as the top administrator in the city of Belton. The City Council hired Listi on March 12, 2001.
âItâs gone fast in some sense, but otherwise I have certainly enjoyed the experience,â Listi said. âI really have been blessed.â
