HILLSBORO, Ohio â A 16-year-old girl saved her brotherâs life Tuesday night after the pair fell through the ice covering Rocky Fork Lake. Emergency responders couldnât save hers.
The 13-year-old boy was freezing and calling for help when a construction worker found him around 6:30 p.m., according to Lt. Branden Jackman of the Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire District.
Jackman s department responded flanked by crews from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and dive teams trained to carry out rescues under ice. ....

A teenage girl died Tuesday after she spent nearly four hours trapped in the icy water at an Ohio state park.
The 16-year-old girl, who has not been publicly identified, was pulled from the ice around 11 p.m. Tuesday at Rocky Fork State Park, according to WCPO.
She and a 16-year-old boy fell into the water near the North Shore Boat docks around 6:30 p.m., but he was able to climb out to safety, officials said. ....

( Highland County, Ohio ) - Dealing with a double tragedy at Rocky Fork State Park.
A 16-year-old girl is dead after falling through a frozen lake at the state park in Hillsboro Tuesday night. She was reportedly with another teen who fell into the water as well but managed to get out. Police say it happened near the North Shore Boat docks.
During the rescue effort, one of the first responders suffered an as-yet unspecified medical emergency at the scene and died.
Officer Jason Lagore (pictured) was a canine officer with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. He was 38-years-old and leaves behind a wife and two young children. ....

Heavy traffic congestion as beachgoers wait to board the Noosa North Shore Ferry.
North Shore business owner Bernie Stafford was stuck in the middle of the line up just before 9am.
He assumed he had about a 45-minute wait and had given in to starting late on the Boxing Day public holiday.
“The longest (line up) I have seen was Australia Day about six years ago. It was around five kilometres of traffic,” he said.
“It took about three or four hours to clear.” ....
