Beachgoers watch on as injured swimmer flown to hospital

Premium Content Subscriber only A man in his 20s was flown to hospital after he was injured while swimming at Double Island Point. A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics were called to Cooloola about 9.25am on Saturday. It s believed the man had been swimming with friends when he dove into the water and failed to resurface. His friends quickly raced to his aid and brought him to shore, where an off-duty nurse then tendered to him until the aeromedical crew arrived. The rescue chopper departed the Sunshine Coast Airport, when it s currently based, shortly after 9.30am. With no vehicle access due to a high tide, the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue critical care doctor and QAS flight paramedic were winched down to the scene.
