Fresh ideas to achieve net zero are on the horizon in Scotland . Scotland is blessed with an abundance of natural produce and many in the food and drink sector are now aiming for full sustainability As Scotland s food and drink sector focuses on sustainability and the goal of net zero carbon emissions, there s no denying the numerous challenges ahead . but there are also abundant opportunities, explains John Davidson of Scotland Food & Drink Scotland’s food and drink owes a lot to the fantastic natural environment we are lucky enough to take our produce from.  With fertile soils for arable farmers, lush grasslands and hills for livestock, and seas, rivers and lochs providing some of the finest fish and seafood in the world, we are fortunate to have all this on our doorstep.

New toolkit encourages Scottish food and drink producers to go green for growth

CLIMATE FOR CHANGE Chief Executive of Scotland Food & Drink, James Withers, is urging firms to try and cut food waste and energy use to reduce bills AS one of the largest industry sectors in Scotland, food and drink has long been a leader across a raft of disciplines, from advances in new product innovation and packaging to marketing and establishing export markets. It’s a dynamic industry, too, with a £15 billion turnover and more than 119,000 employees. Despite the challenges of the global pandemic, the industry refuses to shy away from its vision for future growth, and industry leadership organisation Scotland Food & Drink is continuing efforts to work towards its Ambition 2030 vision, where the target is to double the size of the country s food and drink industry to £30 billion turnover by 2030.
