steve, before you find out by the news, sam was dismembered. that. that s when i just went off the end, deep end. i was angry. i was angry. reporter: the police were able to find all of sam s body parts except his hand and head. the next day, the saturday, was his birthday, and i was praying for them to find sam s head. a father has to pray on his son s birthday that they find his head. go ahead and tell me how i feel. reporter: sam s head was found in the park under scattered leaves on his 27th birthday. his hand was never found. it is beyond ghoulish. if there s a word in the english language that sums that up, i don t know what it is. reporter: sam herr was given a hero s burial with full military honors. his alleged killer, daniel wozniak, was immediately charged with two counts of first-degree murder. daniel s brother, tim, and rachel buffett would also be arrested not for murder but as accessories after the fact tim for hiding that backpack; and rache ....
first we ll check with danielle. we are in the middle of a fabulous weekend, danielle. danielle: 60 degrees yesterday in boston, if you can believe that. outside enjoying the nice weather. and this morning is no exception take a look. we re at 50 degrees currently in is it february? just making sure. it s 45 on the vineyard right now and 44 degrees on nantucket. so obviously it s a mild start. one of the reasons why is these winds are pretty strong out of the west today. you can see they re sustained at 14 miles an hour in boston. 18-mile-an-hour winds in worcester. those strong winds continuing to warm our temperatures up through the afternoon today so we re really going to hold steady i think today maybe warming up into the upper 40 s, low 50 s for highs. a few mid 50 s though i think still could be achieved especially on the south shore and the cape. we ll see a lot of sunshine to start. more clouds working their way in in the aftnoon. here s what s happening. a coup ....
morning s breaking news with new information in just a minute. first we ll check with danielle. we re in the middle of a great, beautiful weekend. danielle: i love the warm weather that we re seeing, doug and sera. good morning. it continues for today so if you like it, you ll enjoy today. if you don t like it, just wait until tomorrow. 48 degrees in boston. 41 in booster. 45 in concord right now. and 49 degree on the vineyard. so it s a mild start. we have some pretty strong winds sustained anywhere from 10 to about 20 miles an hour right now. and that is warming things up. as we go through the day, we ll be in the low to mid 50 s by about 1:00. and then we ll see more clouds increase through the afternoon into the evening. that s all associated with our next storm system. right now though, looking at mainly clear skies. more clouds working their way in from a cold front that is up to the north bringing some snow showers through parts of canada. and then we re watching ....
