Coastal Mountains Land Trust will co-host an online Zoom presentation titled “Birds of Midcoast Maine and Utah’s Wasatch Range with Brian Willson” Thursday, May 13, at 6 p.m., with the Camden Public Library.
In his years of near-daily hikes to the summit of Beech Hill Preserve with his good dog, Captain Jack, avid birder and amateur nature photographer Brian Willson ended up with thousands of photos of wild Maine birds. A couple of years ago, on something of a lark, Willson moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where his routine hikes with Jack have become quite a bit steeper. Park City's extreme drought starts to impact water usage

The snowpack has likely peaked and is melting into the area’s waterways, officials indicated. But because of historically dry soils, much of the snowmelt is being absorbed by the earth on its way to the area’s streams and rivers.
Glen Merrill, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City who also manages its hydrology program, said on April 8, before the recent round of storms, that the snowmelt runoff was predicted to be only half of normal levels for the Weber River and Upper Provo River basins.

Keystone is one of those magical runs at Park City Mountain Resort. It’s a bit tucked away you need to take the old Pioneer lift to get there. Filled with undulating terrain, it’s a nice blue groomer with a ton of width. Given its location, you never have to play pinball with crowds so you can unleash some big, sweeping carving turns.
As you ski down Keystone it’s important to position yourself to the left. As you near the bottom, slow down and stop. At the base of the run, just across Thaynes Canyon, is one of the unique landmarks that make our mountains here in Park City so special. ....

After a few rounds of mostly light to moderate mountain snowfall out West last week, truckers will face more wintry weather in these areas over the next several days.
Fortunately, most of these storms will not likely stop drivers in their tracks, but they will need to be prepared to chain up. The storms will come in waves, and some will be stronger than others.
The first will hit the Sierra Nevada during the first half of the week, with the heaviest snowfall from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday. Look for snowfall totals of 6 to 24 inches in eastern and northern California, depending on elevation, impacting travel in places such as the Mount Shasta region, South Lake Tahoe, Truckee, Mammoth Lakes, Lake Thomas Edison, Camp Nelson and Lassen Volcanic National Park.
