The body of an unidentified youth has been recovered from a jute field in Budhar Banshertal area of Mahendranagar union in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila.
On information, police recovered the body yesterday morning, reports our correspondent quoting Shah Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station.
A bag full of clothes was recovered from the spot, said the OC. He said no injury mark was found on the body.
The man might have been strangled to death, the OC said, adding that the body was sent to the morgue of Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy. ....

In the village of Das Para, some fishermen are shunning their nets and the low murmur of the river, which had been the source of their livelihood for generations, for the electric hum of easy bikes .
Others are looking at alternative professions to make ends meet as the number of fish on offer dwindle.
Mohan Chandra Das (34), Pulak Das (43), Ramoni Das (45) and a few other fishermen from the area are now earning their livelihood by driving the battery-runbikes. ....

A couple was attacked and critically injured when they tried to stop miscreants from forcibly grabbing their land in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila this morning, the police said.
The injured are Haradhan Chandra Roy (38) and his wife Smriti Rani Roy (30), reports our local correspondent quoting Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station.
Around 10 miscreants, led by one Ramzan Ali of the area, allegedly started ploughing a piece of Haradhan s land this morning in an attempt to grab it illegally, the OC said quoting Haradhan.
When he and his wife tried to stop them, the miscreants stabbed them in the head, back, arms and legs. Locals rescued the injured couple and admitted them at Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital, the police official added. ....

If BGB men were involved, they must be punished
We are appalled by the news of a journalist Jahangir Alam Shahin being assaulted and tortured allegedly by BGB men in Kulaghat while he was trying to get information on incidents of drug smuggling in the area.
According to Jahangir Alam, he had gone to Kulaghat area in Lalmonirhat with a local named Sohag to report on drug smuggling at 11:30 pm on Thursday, April 15. He was talking to some BGB men when the Camp Commander came and started assaulting him and Sohag. Jahangir says that the BGB men took both of them to the camp and beat them up, with Sohag being released afterwards, while Jahangir was kept in custody. Jahangir has described how he was allegedly beaten with sticks and kicked mercilessly. What is most shocking is that Jahnagir was taken to Lalmonirhat Sadar police station with his hands and waist tied with a rope and with a bottle of phensidyl that the BGB men claimed was found on him. A case was filed ....
