COVID-19 forced him into the final fight of his life. Ten days later, the chair Al usually occupied at the Thanksgiving table would sit empty. The husband to his wife of 70 years, father of three and grandfather of six died on the holiday. Alâs daughter, Sandra Noe, was herself suffering from COVID-19, which she contracted while caring for her sick parents, when the virus forced Alâs hospitalization. Noe, 66, is no stranger to helping elderly shut-ins weather isolation. ....

A remaining storefront on the south side of Water Street would become eight apartments if the Haverhill City Council tonight steps back from a conviction it declared two years ago. The owners of the nine-story 1 Water St. building already facing opposition from one city department plans to convert an existing commercial space to bring the total number of residences in the building from 164 to 172. “The creation and preservation of street level commercial space in our downtown is critical to providing the mix of commercial uses to complement the expanding commercial/residential base in downtown,” Economic Development and Planning Director William Pillsbury Jr. wrote in a letter to city councilors. ....

Three mobile sites operate Mondays through Fridays from buses in the parking lot of Caleb Dustin Hunking School, from 11-11:30 a.m.; Fantini Bakery on Washington Street, from 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m.; and Haverhill Public Library parking lot, from 12:30-1 p.m. The Haverhill High School site continues Mondays through Fridays from 3-4 p.m. Grab ‘n’ Go sites at Albert B. Consentino, Paul Nettle, John Greenleaf Whittier and Tilton Lower schools are discontinued. ....
