The Corbin City Commission voted unanimously to approve the lease of a new city garbage truck through Enterprise Fleet Management at a Feb. 16 special called meeting. Public Works Director Gary Kelly had requested a new garbage truck during the commission’s Dec. 21 meeting. “We were going to bid it out, but it would take probably 10 months to find a truck and build it to our specs,” said Marlon Sams, Corbin City Manager. “Enterprise Fleet worked with another company that had some garbage trucks and they just came in and fixed up the truck suited to our needs.” Enterprise Fleet Management is the same group the city uses for police cars. ....

Corporal Stephen Meadors was promoted to Sergeant, as was Corporal Jeff Hill. Patrolman Lonnie Sawyers was promoted to Corporal. Sawyers was the only officer present at the meeting to receive his plaque. âI just want to give a big shoutout to the police department, fire department, public works,â said Mayor Suzie Razmus. âThe last few days, they have worked nonstop, I am so thankful for you all. You really take care of our citizens at great risk to yourselves. I just canât thank you enough. Keep up the good work, guys.â ....
Officers with the Corbin Police Department delivered toys to 10 houses and over 30 children on Dec. 16. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, officers were unable to participate in the Shop with a Cop event as usual. The unusual circumstances caused the officers to improvise and thus Operation Save Christmas was born. The project was coordinated by Corporal Steve Meadors. Patrolmen Lonnie Sawyers, Brentley Patrick, and Justin Walker along with School Resource Officer Mike Taylor delivered the gifts. About the Author ....
