NM Hoopsters Sweep Tigerhawks COLFAX – A pair of North Mahaska basketball players ripped the cords for their respective teams as North Mahaska swept South Iowa Cedar League foe Colfax-Mingo Friday night. The girls won 56-30 while the boys picked up a 77-51 win. Junior Layla Hargis poured in 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the 13th-ranked NM girls. Most of Hargis’s points came off second chance opportunities. Fellow junior Addie Schilling finished with 13 points and seven boards. Kaitlyn VanDonselaar and Maddie McKay each scored six points. North Mahaska forced 21 Tigerhawk turnovers. Unofficially, VanDonselaar was credited with five steals and Schilling had four. ....

Gibson NEW SHARON â Colfax-Mingo s boys basketball team fell behind 15-0 after one quarter and couldn t recover during a 65-36 loss to North Mahaska on Friday night in South Iowa Cedar League play. Jake Nichols had 13 rebounds and scored five points, but the Tigerhawks just couldn t overcome their slow start. They trailed 35-10 at halftime and was outscored 22-4 in the third. Colfax-Mingo did win the fourth quarter 22-5. A.J. Gibson had eight points and three rebounds, Zach Steenhoek tallied eight points and two steals and Cole Bracewell chipped in five points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. ....

The Class 1A No. 11 Hawks shot 32 percent from the floor, made 6-of-19 from 3-point range and connected on 7-of-13 from the free-throw line in a 56-47 home loss to North Mahaska during South Iowa Cedar League play. North Mahaska was able to rally in part because of a 16-5 advantage in second-chance points. The difference in the game was our lack of rebounding and our rotation and communication were not there on defense, L-S girls head coach Jerry Hulsing said. We stopped attacking on offense in the second half. ....
NM Girls Upset No. 8 Hawks North Mahaska Warhawks by RD Keep SULLY – North Mahaska used a strong rebounding presence Tuesday night to upset No. 8 Lynnville-Sully, 55-47. North Mahaska was able to win the free throw contest draining 11-of-25 attempts while L-S went 6-of-13. North Mahaska (2-1) led the first four minutes and retook the lead with 44 seconds left in the third period. The Warhawks led 38-37 entering the final frame. They spread the wealth in scoring and on the boards in the final frame. Addie Schilling and Madison McKay each scored five, Layla Hargis scored four and Kaitlyn VanDonselaar added a 3-pointer. ....
