Almost eight hours of Martha Argerich on film. What a glorious prospect! This six-DVD set mostly consists of recordings of live concerts. The set was released to celebrate the great Argentinian’s 80th birthday last month. Again and again in performance, she finds depths, colours and transcendence that simply stop you in your tracks. In preparation for my prognostications on Nashvilleâs restaurant scene in 2021, I reviewed what I wrote for last yearâs âStories to Watchâ issue. And you know what? For as messed-up as 2020 has turned out to be, I didnât miss the mark by all that much in my predictions. While I didnât anticipate the specific pandemic-related reasons for the upheaval, I foresaw major alterations in business models and wholesale restaurant closings. Iâve never been more sorry to be correct about something.
Looking forward to 2021 in the hospitality industry, two major projects that grab our attention are holdovers from last yearâs list. Weâre anxiously anticipating Sean Brockâs shrine to Appalachia, Audrey, which seems to be in the final preparations for opening.
