‘Happy medium’: UAB defensive line finding balance in deep rotation

It’s no secret that the key to victory in college football starts and ends within the trenches.
If that’s truly the way to the promised land, then the UAB football team has all the ingredients for another dominating season with three senior defensive linemen taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA returning to lead a deep position on an already stacked defense.
“I think it’s tremendous anytime you can get a veteran group of guys back who know the ropes and what’s going on,” UAB defensive line coach Kyle Tatum said. “Really enjoy coaching these guys and they’re taking steps and getting better every day. There’s a huge battle in my room right now and the guys are very aware of it. The competition is awesome and it’s fun to come out here for spring training when you got guys really competing.” ....

It’s been three months since the UAB football team ended a most unusual season in the most unusual way.
Despite winning a second conference championship in three years, the Blazers were unable to finish the 2020 season in style South Carolina withdrew from the Gasparilla Bowl less than a week before it was scheduled but are back on the field as they opened spring practice, Tuesday, March 16, in Legacy Pavilion at the UAB Football Operations Complex in Birmingham.
“We always look for great organization and that’s the first thing I told them,” UAB head coach Bill Clark said. “That’s why I look for all the little things: Do they come out properly equipped?
