Massillon man found hiding in retention pond after chase along Interstate 77

No one was seriously injured. Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Leo Shirkey said a 32-year-old Massillon man was driving at 90 mph on I-77 near Portage Street NW and wouldn t stop for authorities. He pulled off the interstate at Shuffel Street NW and kept going.  Shirkey said the driver caused a couple of crashes as he continued to evade authorities, but none of them resulted in life-threatening injuries.  Township police joined state troopers and the patrol s aviation unit, catching up to the driver after he abandoned the sport utility vehicle, which had been reported stolen from Texas, and fled on foot.

Investigators: High rate of speed precedes rollover crash on I-77

Repository staff report JACKSON TWP.  A Canton man was hospitalized after an Interstate 77 crash during which he was thrown from his car as it overturned several times Tuesday afternoon. The 4:36 p.m. crash on the interstate south of Shuffel Street NW left authorities closing two of the three northbound lanes for hours. The 25-year-old was driving north at a high rate of speed when he came up on traffic and lost control of his vehicle, said Lt. Leo Shirkey of the Ohio Highway Patrol s Canton post. The vehicle went off the left side, striking a guardrail, came back up onto the road and overturned several times, Shirkey said. As the car rolled, the young man was thrown onto the road.
