University of Newcastle sues over spoilt blood Save Share The University of Newcastle is taking a laboratory equipment provider and two international manufacturers to court over the spoiling of thousands of blood samples, including from cancer patients, which were being used for research. The university is suing Perth-based Fisher Biotec and two foreign companies, ESCO USA and ESCO Singapore, over the failure of an ultra-low temperature freezer in 2017, which was a replacement installed after temperature failings in 2015. The University of Newcastle is suing for the cost of replacing lost blood samples. In documents filed in the NSW Supreme Court, the university said the failure led to the loss of more than 10,000 plasma samples, nearly 3000 buffy coats, more than 111 blood samples and 5 tubes of whole blood. The samples included blood from the Australasia Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group. ....
