SAN FRANCISCO Twitter doesn’t want its executives to come back to the office, at least not full time.
Neither does Slack, which makes workplace-collaboration tools. Both companies are letting employees work partially or fully remotely after the pandemic and want to make sure everyone adheres to the new policies to create equality.
Amazon, on the other hand, believes the best way to keep its foothold as a leading tech giant is by bringing everyone back to an “office-centric culture,” as soon as it’s safely possible. In between are companies such as Google and Apple, which are allowing two work-from-home days every week. ....

A study by the University of Washington that sampled hundreds of people in the Puget Sound region last year revealed people working from home felt more productive without a commute, with fewer interruptions from co-workers, and with a flexible schedule.
What didn’t help were challenges while communicating with colleagues, family needs, and demands around the house.
The COVID-19 Mobility Survey included more than 4,500 people in King County and surrounding counties, and was administered once in the spring of 2020 and again in the fall of 2020. It asked questions about work and transportation habits, and lifestyle changes. More than three times as many people answered the survey in the spring, when the pandemic was relatively new. ....

Washington on Monday will adopt a new plan to start to reopen the state as coronavirus cases and hospitalizations have been flattening to trending down over the past few weeks.
The new plan, called Healthy Washington, will group every county into eight regions, which will have to meet four key metrics to advance from Phase 1 to Phase 2.
Regions will have to see a 10% decrease in the number of new coronavirus cases per 100,000 people over the previous 14 days and a 10% decrease in COVID-19 hospital admissions per 100,000 people over the previous two weeks. They will also have to have an ICU occupancy below 90%, including both COVID-19 and other patients, and a test positivity rate below 10%. ....
