Stockton welcomes back 4th of July parade after COVID-19 hiatus


Downtown Stockton streets were filled Sunday morning with Fourth of July paradegoers as excitement, smiles, laughs and American pride overflowed during the event. 
This year, city officials, first responders, car clubs and more all joined the pride and celebration. 
“I just think it s important for our community to be able to gather and celebrate and still be mindful of what is happening in the world but also do something fun,” said Linda Vasquez, Parade Committee chairwoman and a 2021 Key to the City recipient.
An event that was approved and in the works only some four weeks ago was enjoyed by many parade attendees. This year s Fourth of July parade not only means COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted and people are starting to get back to their “normal” lives, but it also represents freedom to some.  ....

Pack some lawn chairs, blankets and head to Lodi Lake for fireworks, water play and more. 4th of July at the Lake starts at 10 a.m. with activities and vendors. The nature area will be closed. No parking

Grant County officials held a hearing Tuesday afternoon in preparation for formulating their 2022 fiscal year budget, and while solid revenue projections aren’t available yet, the exercise gave some insight into expenditure priorities for the various county departments.
Payroll is the largest overall expense for the county, accounting for around 70 percent of its expenditures; but at the departmental level, costs associated with the Grant County Detention Center eat up about one-third of the annual budget, according to County Manager Charlene Webb.
“That’s the reality of counties in New Mexico right now,” said Webb, who has long been a member of the chorus of county managers who argue that the state unfairly mandates county corrections services a large portion of which are ultimately for detainees with beha ....
