Anti-terrorism unit of police arrested a member of banned militant group Jama atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) yesterday; nearly three years after a Rangpur court sentenced him to death for killing the caretaker of a mazar in 2015.
Abdur Rahman alias Chandu Mia, is a member of the militant group.
He had been hiding in different areas over the years, posing as rickshaw puller and day labourer, Aslam Khan, ATU s superintendent of police, told reporters.
A team of ATU arrested him from Savar area around 7:30pm yesterday, he said during a briefing at ATU headquarters in Baridhara.

The police counter-terrorism unit has arrested a member of Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh, or JMB, over the murder of shrine caretaker Rahmat Ali. );

A team of law enforcers arrested the fugitive, identified as death row fugitive Chandu Miah, from Savar’s Genda area around 7:30 pm on Monday night.
Militants attacked Rahmat Ali and slit his throat while he was on his way home from the market at Rangpur’s Kaunia on Nov 10, 2015, according to a police statement.
Ali’s son, Shafiqul Islam, filed a case over his father’s death at Kawnia Police Station.
The Saudi authorities said violators shall be deported and banned indefinitely from entering the Middle Eastern country.
Speaking to The Daily Star yesterday at the Saudia (Saudi airlines) office in the capital s Karwanbazar, Saudi-bound workers said they need to spend around Tk 65,000 to Tk 70,000 to comply with the new conditions.
Following the fresh travel regulations that came into effect from May 20, Biman Bangladesh Airlines was forced to suspend all its international flights to Saudi Arabia for five days till May 24, saying they need time to make arrangements in line with the fresh advisory.
Several thousand workers, who failed to travel to Saudi Arabia due to the suspension of Biman flights, said they are fearing that visas would expire if they fail to return to their workplaces on time.

The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested the owner and the driver of a microbus that was involved in an accident that left two dead, including a RAB sergeant, in Gazipur. );

The two were sent to prison on a court order on Friday following their arrest, said Maona Highway Police SI Hadiul Islam.
The detainees are driver Abul Hossain, 40, son of Badruzzaman Gazi of Chandpur’s Faridganj and Jahir Uddin Mohammad Babar, 48, son of Mahfuzur Rahman Mazumder of the same district.
On Wednesday, a RAB-4 vehicle broke down on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur’s Bhabanipur area. RAB sergeant Md Khairul Islam was repairing the car on the side of the highway, when he and Liton Mia, a local autorickshaw driver, were struck and killed by the microbus.
Woman dead after son hit her with a brick in Dhaka’s Jatrabari

A woman died after her son allegedly hit her in the head with a brick in Dhaka s Jatrabari area last night.
The deceased was identified as Parveen Akter, 48, mother of four.
The incident took place at their house in Kazla area around 9:00pm when her eldest son Sajib, 27, locked in altercation with the woman over his marriage.
As his mother asked Sajib, a workshop employee, to wait until he earned more, he got infuriated and at one stage, hit her on the head with a brick, said victim s husband Liton Mia.
