May 10 A Kansas City man has languished in prison for more than 40 years for a triple murder he did not commit, Jackson County s top prosecutors have determined. They are now calling for his release.
Kevin Strickland, 61, is innocent in the 1978 killings for which he has been imprisoned for more than two-thirds of his life, the Jackson County Prosecutor s Office has concluded following a monthslong review of his case.
The prosecutor s office is not alone in calling for Strickland s release. Federal prosecutors in the Western District of Missouri, as well as Jackson County s presiding judge, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas and members of the team that convicted Strickland four decades ago now all agree he deserves to be exonerated. ....

Prosecutors: Missouri man wrongly convicted of triple murder

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Prosecutors called for the release of a Missouri man who has spent more than 40 years in prison for a triple murder that the prosecutors concluded he didn t commit, a letter released Monday showed.
The release of the letter, indicating overwhelming support for the release of Kevin Strickland, 62, came after his attorneys filed a petition urging the Missouri Supreme Court to free him immediately, The Kansas City Star reports. In the letter, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker and her chief deputy, Dan Nelson, said the evidence used to convict Strickland as a teenager has since been “eviscerated.” ....

Editor s note: The Idaho Department of Labor sent KTVB a statement on Thursday afternoon clarifying this was not a hack of the unemployment system, but a case of individual identity theft. Their statement is included at the bottom of this story.
An Idaho woman is sending out a warning to others after her unemployment account was hacked months after she returned to work. 
Heather Sprague told KTVB that her bank account information was changed on the Idaho Department of Labor s website when someone tried to get unemployment benefits under her name. ....

BOISE, Idaho (AP) The state of Idaho is trying to recover overpaid unemployment benefits disbursed as part of an effort to mitigate the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Idaho Department of Labor said there were 11,222 weekly overpayments in the third quarter of this year, affecting thousands of residents, The Idaho Statesman reports.
The labor department said 97% of the excess payments resulted from mistakes by people claiming unemployment benefits.
An example of a claimant error would be taking a vacation and traveling outside their residential area, which is prohibited under the program’s regulations. ....
