A recent press release from the state said the awards are part of more than $37.2 million in federal highway safety grants awarded to 502 programs throughout New York State in 2021. Receiving funding in St. Lawrence County are: • Potsdam Village Police Department, $7,480 for police traffic service; • St. Lawrence County Community Services, $12,500 for a child passenger safety program; • St. Lawrence County Community Services, $76,699 for the program “Traffic Safety a Concern in Rural Areas; and • St. Lawrence County Sheriff s Office, $4,995 for police traffic service. These grants provide funding to local, state and not-for-profit agencies for projects that improve overall highway safety and reduce deaths and serious injuries due to crashes.
