In Contrast With Flagler Beach, Palm Coast Will Go Ahead With Independence Day Fireworks in Town Center

Off they’ll go again. (Palm Coast)
The annual Palm Coast fireworks celebration of Independence Day will return this year on July 3 along with the traditional Central Park picnic, with no restrictions on attendance except for a recommendation of physical distancing.
The city has been marking its own July 4 celebrations in tandem with Flagler Beach since 2010, always a day before or a day after Flagler Beach’s big-draw event that’s held on July 4. The announcement was a surprise: it was not discussed by the city council, neither at a meeting nor at a workshop.
But this year, like last year, Flagler Beach has elected not to go ahead with its July 4 parade and fireworks, citing covid safety issues and the impossibility of practicing physical distancing along the parade route or even on the beach and along State Road A1A when the fireworks go off. Anyone who’s attended Flagler Beach’s July 4 celebrations would be familiar with its throngs of people as the barrie ....

The city of Palm Coast’s Holland Park phase two renovations are near completion. The playground construction has been finished for a few months. The splash pad is now ready for families to enjoy.
The Holland Park splash pad ribbon cutting will take place at 9 a.m. May 14, at the pavilion closest to the restrooms. Palm Coast Mayor Milissa Holland, Palm Coast Parks and Recreation Director Lauren Johnston, and BBI Construction Project Manager Ben Grikstas will all be speaking.
If you visit Holland Park prior to the event, you’ll notice there may be children frolicking among the splash pad creatures, enjoying the water sprays under the Florida sun. Starting May 3, the Parks and Recreation team is beginning a soft opening of the attraction ahead of the ribbon cutting event, which will signify the official opening of the splash pad. Don’t forget tha ....

Palm Coast Swipes Sheriff's Peerless PR Director Brittany Kershaw in Latest Revamp, at a Salary of $105,000

Brittany Kershaw. (FCSO)
In local government, Brittany Kershaw, the Flagler County Sheriff’s public relations director, is unrivaled in her field. She brings an unusual level of transparency and candor to a job better known for obfuscation or hype, at an agency that before her tenure–which paralleled Sheriff Rick Staly’s–feared information more than shared it.
Kershaw tendered her resignation on Wednesday. “I have received an attractive job offer from a local organization and after careful consideration, I have decided to accept the position,” she wrote Sheriff Rick Staly.
Kershaw starts as Palm Coast’s director of “Public Information and Engagement,” as her new position has been named, on May 17. ....

The city of Palm Coast is seeking a multi-year grant for enhancements to Waterfront Park to build non-motorized boat access through a floating dock for a launch area. This would provide access for kayaks, paddleboards, canoes, row boats and others, further adding to residents’ recreational experience at one of Palm Coast’s most treasured parks.
The multi-year grant through the Florida Inland Navigation District has three parts: A, B and C. The City of Palm Coast was awarded part A in the amount of $146,000 in October 2020 to be applied toward the cost of the improvements, particularly shoreline improvements. ....
