Audio-Visual upgrades coming to City Council chamber SHARE ON: Lloydminster City Council is making enhancements to the audio-visual capability of the Council chamber. As Council heads on Summer break this week, Mayor Gerald Aalbers indicated the importance of improving the online streaming of meetings. “Making it just a little more modern. Some of that technology is fairly aged in that room. We have had challenges over the last term with the quality of sound. Certainly with COVID and the [plexy] barriers and things like that. That challenged us. So with these additions and upgrades, I think you will be very impressed as the people watching and seeing.” ....

Council votes for keeping the RCMP over a provincial policing system SHARE ON: The exterior of the Lloydminster RCMP detachment. (James Wood, 106.1 The Goat) Lloydminster City Council has given a thumbs up to retaining the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in the bi-provincial municipality. An Alberta based policing option was shot down by Council as being cost prohibitive, given the added benefits that the RCMP brings to the table and the costs incurred by other jurisdictions like Surrey in B.C. that have gone that route. Mayor Gerald Aalbers indicated that those added policing benefits means those are resources that do not come out of the City coffers. ....
2020 financial statement shows City has a surplus SHARE ON: Lloydminster City Council has accepted and approved their Consolidated Financial statements for 2020. The document which was prepared by local chartered professional accountants WLS Wilkinson Livingston Stevens LLP and was presented to Council on Monday April 26th. On the plus side, the report shows a rise in financial assets of about $13.8 million with liabilities close to $3 million. This gives an increase in net financial assets of about $11 million. The City has a surplus of $9.9 million for the year which was more than double what had been budgeted. Municipal taxes are slightly down from last year and user fees have shown a sharp decline off what was budgeted. ....
City continues the partnership with Lakeland College on facility usage SHARE ON: Bioclean Aquatic Centre [Photo: City of Lloydminster Website] Lloydminster City Council is renewing their agreement with Lakeland College allowing full-time students to benefit from use of City recreation facilities. The Facility Use Agreement affords students access to the Bioclean Aquatic and Servus Sports Centres for a fee and at the same time allowing Lakeland College not to have to duplicate these services. Mayor Gerald Aalbers sees it as win-win situation for students at the College and the City. “It covers off two terrific facilities in our city, gives us a little extra revenue and it gives the students a very reasonable access while they’re working on a limited budget as a full time student.” ....
