Audio-Visual upgrades coming to City Council chamber

Lloydminster City Council is making enhancements to the audio-visual capability of the Council chamber.
As Council heads on Summer break this week, Mayor Gerald Aalbers indicated the importance of improving the online streaming of meetings.
“Making it just a little more modern. Some of that technology is fairly aged in that room. We have had challenges over the last term with the quality of sound. Certainly with COVID and the [plexy] barriers and things like that. That challenged us. So with these additions and upgrades, I think you will be very impressed as the people watching and seeing.”
Lloydminster Council approves terms of reference for DARP committee

City Council has given the green light to the terms of reference for the committee that will oversee the revitalization of Downtown.
The approval came down at Monday’s regular Council meeting and paves the way to assemble a multi-sectoral community team that will work with the City to execute the Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan (DARP).
As the call goes out for interested persons to join the committee, Mayor Gerald Aalbers admits that some people may not as yet have read the DARP document.
Lloydminster GPC discusses new funding model for Youth Council

Monday’s Governance and Priorities Committee session saw conversation about a proposed funding model for the Lloydminster Youth Council.
The present structure sees the Youth Council having to apply for grant funding dollars through Lloydminster Family and Community Support Services (FCFS). The proposal would see Council giving the youth organization an annual amount.
Deputy Mayor Glenn Fagnan is heading up Council over the Summer months as Mayor Gerald Aalbers is on vacation. Fagnan discussed the debate as some Councillors had concerns about the proposal.
Shovel hits the ground for a 10 million dollar build at Holy Rosary

The shovel is in the ground for the construction of the new wing at the Holy Rosary High School.
MLA’s Colleen Young, Garth Rowswell and Mayor Gerald Aalbers joined with the School’s community to bring greetings and lend a hand for the symbolic effort.
Five years of planning have culminated in the start of the new wing that will have 16 classrooms and is costing $10 million.
