In a mere 18 months, the park has experienced record levels of visitors. It shuttered its entrances temporarily in spring 2020 as the global pandemic forced many national park sites to rethink how to open its doors and keep its staff and visitors as safe as possible. Then, Rocky Mountain shuttered them again in late fall when two of Colorado’s largest-ever fires ripped through the park and burned 10% the equivalent of a whopping 30,000 acres of the park. ....
According to Estes Park News, both incidents occurred in the Loch Vale area of the park. During the early morning on Tuesday (June 1), park rangers received a 911 call regarding an injured 32-year-old male near Loch Vale. The man had suffered a lower leg injury after slipping and falling on snow. A team of park rangers and a paramedic from Estes Park Health reached the man at approximately 8:30 a.m. and provided emergency care on scene. Then, a group of 20 Rocky Mountain National Park Search and Rescue Team members helped to carry the man, using a special type of stretcher, that s specifically designed for obstacles and hazardous terrain. The rescuers reportedly dealt with extremely unfavorable trail conditions at high elevations, due to the melting snow. The group of rescuers arrived at the Glacier Gorge trailhead by about 3:40 p.m., and the hiker was then taken by ambulance to Estes Park Health. ....
After two people slipped and injured themselves in snow at Rocky Mountain National Park, park rangers are reminding visitors to bring traction and prepare for winter-like conditions in parts of the park. ....
Woman Rescued From Rocky Mountain National Park Fall On Tuesday (Feb. 9), park rangers were notified that a 21-year-old female from Texas had suffered serious injuries near Emerald Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. According to an official press release from the National Park Service, the woman slid down a snow-covered slope about 70 to 100 feet into a talus slope on the south side of Emerald Lake. Courtesy Rocky Mountain National Park Rocky Mountain National Park Search and Rescue Team members performed advanced medical care upon finding the victim. They used a Rescue Toboggan to take the patient from Emerald Lake to the Bear Lake Trailhead where she was transported by ambulance to Estes Park Health and then taken to a nearby trauma center. ....
